Organizational effectiveness is tied to the ability of an organization to achieve its outcomes in terms of the set vision and mission. Organizational effectiveness is an important concept of internal communications where a process is put in place to achieve and deliver the exact intent for why the organization was set up. When an organization fails to achieve its original intent, it can be described as ineffective.

Another attribute of an effective organization is that it does not erode value in any way through its operations. An organization is also effective when it delivers its objective consistently and effectively.

We will adopt the model by Leadership Circle which positions leadership at the centre of organizational effectiveness.

  • Leadership: The leadership system sets the pace for the entire organization. They articulate the vision, mission, strategy, define culture, make commitment to results that helps the organization thrive, refine key processes and translate their vision into strategies that the team will run with. Many times, when the leadership system fails, all the other processes are affected and can result in ineffectiveness.
  • Accountability: Performance and accountability systems defines who is to do what with rewards or sanctions for adequate/inadequate performance. This is how the organization’s mission that is translated into objectives can be achieved.
  • Communication: There has to be a system where information is not only exchanged from one point to the other but a system where meaning and understanding is exchanged. This will affect the motivation, inspiration and ability to take initiatives. The communications system has to be very encompassing to bring about understanding, meaning, affinity and engagement within the organization.
  • Delivery System: This is the system that determines swift internal and external engagement processes to achieve the organization’s desired goal with utmost satisfaction.
  • Human performance: This is where you pay attention to the bringing on board and retaining the right set of people in the organization. An effective organization should have a system that not only attracts high talents but can help them grow their knowledge and industry insights within the organization.
  • Metrics: This system ensures frequent measurement of outcomes and reviews of processes and operational delivery. There has to be defined metrics when the objectives are set that can now be used to measure performance and outcomes. Also, feedback, audience reviews, and social media views can give useful insights to correct processes and keep the organization on track.
